School Meals

Lunchtime is part of the whole school experience and children are taught to behave with consideration and good manners at all times. School lunches are cooked fresh on the premises by the school catering manager and her staff each day. There is a varied menu with a vegetarian dish and fresh fruit available each day and a daily salad bar, which the children can help themselves to. Sometimes we use our own salad crops and vegetables grown in the school grounds by the children. Special diets can also be catered for.

Healthy Schools

At Riverview Infant School we recognise that a healthy school is one that is successful in helping pupils to do their best, building on their achievements and where the children feel safe and happy. We promote physical and emotional health by providing accessible and relevant information, and equipping children with the skills and attitudes to make informed decisions about their health. We understand that healthy, happy children learn better, so raises levels of pupil achievements and standards within the school.

Therefore, we ensure that the healthy schools values are covered through different subjects in the curriculum across the school. Such as:

  • PSHE topics on healthy eating and developing a child’s emotional health.
  • P.E topics on fitness and offering the children access to try a range of different sports.
  • RE, where we discuss the cultural diversity of the community and teach the children how to be respectful of others around us, which helps to make all children feel happier and safer within our school.

Healthy eating is big part of keeping a child healthy. Our kitchen provides well balanced meals and our lunchtime staff help encourage healthy food choices. Please encourage healthy eating at home and school! Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and we want to encourage children to have extra nutrients before coming to school.
